That is a common miss conception. Since most of us myself included are pretty sedimentary most of the time all we need to do is just a little bit more than we usually do each day. I am sure as time goes by and your body gets use to your new efforts at moving you will have to increase a bit more. But you never have to hurt your self to raise your metabolism.
